TED Talk Transparency Extra Credit Quiz

This TED Talk explores the technologies driving the new transparency and the knowledge they could deliver. Deb Roy gave this enlightening speech. He discussed a piece of technology that records everything you said, everything you did, available in a perfect memory store at your fingertips. Inside Roy's home are cameras and microphones in practically every room. Roy states, "Over the course of three years, we recorded eight to 10 hours a day, amassing roughly a quarter-million hours of multi-track audio and video." Roys said science is what really drove this project. "The use of this natural longitudinal data to understand the process of how a child learns language." Roy thinks mass media is providing common ground for his study. Roy said we have the recipe for taking this idea to a whole new place. The connection to his home study and mass media are transparent. "As our world becomes increasingly instrumented and we have the capabilities to collect and connect the dots between what people are saying and the context they're saying it in, what's emerging is an ability to see new social structures and dynamics that have previously not been seen," Roy said. "It's like building a microscope or telescope and revealing new structures about our own behavior around communication.
